Sportslynx Highlight: Quincy Latimore

This month, I had the opportunity to talk with a few players who are currently playing for Rigo Beltran’s (previously featured) Mexican Pacific Winter League team, the Algodoneros de Guasave. As part of an ongoing series, I interviewed them on their playing career thus far, and their impressions of the league. 

This next interview is with outfielder Quincy Latimore. Latimore was drafted out of Middle Creek in North Carolina in 2007, and has been a part of numerous organizations including the Pirates, Nationals, Orioles and Dodgers. Recently, he has been a part of a couple Mexican League teams including the Rieleros de Aguascalientes, and Tigres de Quintana Roo. He had a strong 2019, slashing .279/.392/.465.

AD: How has the adjustment been, going from playing in the US to Mexico? Are there any significant differences that you’ve noticed?

QL: Thats tough to answer. This is my 5th season in the league. Really isn’t an adjustment anymore. It’s baseball. Mexican style baseball definitely plays the matchups more which make for long games but after playing down here so long you get use to it.

AD: What are some of the goals you want to achieve in your time in Mexico?

QL: Any team I play on regardless where it is I want to be a player the team can count on. Big hits a run producer and run scorer. I’m a middle of the line up guy and take pride in driving runners in.

AD: How does the day-to-day process compare to your initial expectations?

QL: The day-to-day is normal now. You want early work you show up. If not, you show up for stretch, take your BP and get ready for the game. Some places have cages, some don’t, so how you prepare changes place to place.

AD: How does your love and passion for the game keep you going forward with your career?

QL: I love playing baseball. When I was in kindergarten as was asked what I wanted to be when I grow up I said a baseball player. I get to play a child’s game everyday and I want to play as long as I can. I love what I get to do and the joy it brings people; the smile a little boy or girl has when you give em a foul ball or sign something for them, taking a picture with them. I look forward to each up coming season. The passion I have to be the best I can keeps me going. You learn more and more each year about yourself and the player you are. I love playing baseball it’s that simple.
