Jermaine Curtis is a free-agent infielder with 10 years of MiLB and MLB experience with teams including the Reds, Twins, A’s and Cardinals. Curtis, 31 also has experience playing in Mexico’s winter league with the Cañeros de Los Mochis of the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico. He has expressed interest and is excited about the opportunity to play in Mexico again, and would be a great addition to a ballclub due to his versatility, experience, and offensive production.
Curtis credits his most notable gains in development due to the style of play in Mexico, citing the higher usage of off-speed pitches to really help him generate better at-bats. He has also said that he appreciates the veteran presence that he experienced during his 2+ seasons in the Mexican Winter League, and would like to play that role with a club this upcoming season.
Curtis has a lot left in the tank, and feels that he can still produce at a very high level. This offseason he has been fine tuning his swing to drive the ball in the gaps, and is prepared to join a team soon. Additionally, he would make a great addition because of his leadership intangibles. A captain of a UCLA squad when they were ranked #1 in the nation, Curtis is a competitor that “makes things happen” and does whatever he can to help the team win.
